श्मिट के मुताबिक, “लीथियम बाजार में ऑस्ट्रेलिया (हार्ड-रॉक माइनिंग) और दक्षिण अमेरिका (ब्राइन माइनिंग) के मुट्ठी भर लोगों का वर्चस्व है, जो लीथियम उत्पादन का 85 फीसद हिस्सा हैं. इन कंपनियों को लीथियम की बढ़ती मांग को पूरा करने के लिए साल 2030 तक दस अरब यूरो तक निवेश करने की जरूरत होगी.”
मौजूदा समय में इलेक्ट्रिक कार बैटरी में मौजूद लीथियम का केवल दस फीसद की ही रीसाइक्लिंग की जाती है.
ब्रिटेन के थिंक टैंक टोनी ब्लेयर इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ ग्लोबल चेंज की रिपोर्ट में इसे लेकर चिंता जताई गई थी।
रिपोर्ट में अनुमान जताया गया है कि 2040 तक ही अगर कोई नया टैक्स नहीं लगाया गया तो ब्रिटेन की ट्रेजरी को 26.16 लाख करोड़ का नुकसान संभव है।
हर साल एक वाहन मालिक औसत 1.11 लाख रुपए फ्यूल ड्यूटी और वाहन उत्पाद शुल्क देता है। इनमें करीब 75,465 रुपए टैक्स राशि है। वहीं इलेक्ट्रिक वाहन मालिक सिर्फ 32,198 रुपए देते हैं, इनमें 2012 रुपए टैक्स रहता है। यानी पेट्रोल-डीजल गाड़ियां चलाने वाले 245% ज्यादा टैक्स भरते हैं।
